Crime trends?

Find out whether crime is going up or down by area - Choose the offence, geographic area and time period

Note: When the Kendall's rank-order correlation test returns a significant trend with a percentage change close to zero (say between one and minus one per cent), the trend will often disappear when the data is de-seasonalised. This is more likely in crimes that show seasonal variation and usually occurs after a peak or trough (eg assaults have a summer peak and a winter trough) and where the percentage change between annual periods is close to zero. This is the case for two NSW incident series this quarter, domestic violence related assault and breach Apprehended Violence Order which both appear in the report as stable over the 24 months to March 2012, but are in the crime trends tool with a downtrend of 0.2% and an uptrend of 0.4% respectively.
