What's new
- Statutory review of the Terrorism (Police Powers) Act 2002
- Statutory review of the Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002
The Department of Justice and Attorney General is reviewing the above Acts.
The aim of each review is to determine whether the policy objectives of the Act remain valid and whether the terms of the Act remain appropriate for securing those objectives.
The Terrorism (Police Powers) Act 2002 confers special powers on police officers to deal with imminent threats of terrorist activity and to respond to terrorist attacks.
The Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities) Act 2002 brings together law enforcement powers and responsibilities under the one statute, so that both police powers and citizens’ rights are clearly articulated.
A copy of each Act can be accessed at http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au.
The closing date for submissions to these reviews was 25 September 2009.
