Summary

Key findings

It should be noted that there was an extremely high association (P<1%) between those people who were convicted of driving with a medium to heavy blood alcohol level (i.e. 0.16% or more), and those people with a history of previous drinking-driving offences. In fact, of the 215 cases in which people had a history of three or more drinking-driving convictions, 159 (74%) had a medium to heavy blood alcohol level when detected in 1971.
